Boredom and Craigslist go together like $50 and $50 worth of cocaine. When you have one, the other is always there to take it away from you, and maybe show you a moderately good time in the process. So while I wait for the work day to come to a close, I occasionally stray over to the white and purple side of the internet and find things I can't/shouldn't afford to oggle at. This time it was Baja Bugs and then Broncos, which lead me to this beauty. Somehow.
Just to be clear, the ad doesn't mention anything special about the car at all other than it's "very clean for a great price." Yeah, no mention of the interior and drivetrain transplant from a Ranger. This seems like the kind of thing you would want to include some details about, but hey, we don't know this guy's life. Maybe it's so exciting and interesting that such mundane details are no longer of interest to him. Maybe he had $50 worth of cocaine to do, and it slipped his mind. Who are we to judge?
Here's the entire ad:
this is the perfect car for a daily driver excellent mechanical, interior very clean for a great price. comes with automatic transmission. Very comfortable to drive and always turns heads wherever you go have all the proper paperwork please call Dave at ########## will consider trade for Jeep or bronco
Before you ask, no, Dodge wasn't just ahead of its time and beat Ford to this interior by a 6-7 decades. I had to do some poking around Google images, and compare the images side by side, but it does seem that the original Dodge interior is a bit different, as shown below:
I mean, the layout is pretty much the same, but if you pay close attention to the finer details, you'll see that they are in fact different.
The story gets even more interesting once you start poking around under the skin. If you look around the back, you'll see that the Ranger's 7.5 rear axle came along for the ride, as well as the 3.0L V6, all probably from the same truck. What is so fascinating about this is how clean the install looks. If I had to guess, I'd say that the body was just transplanted onto the frame, given what little you can see of the under carriage. No word on whether the body is original either.
All in all, this looks like very clean work. I can't say I see the motivation in the choice of base vehicle for the swap, but I guess if you didn't need the truck bed anymore, this is just about the most stylish way to drive a Ranger there is. Classic car looks with modern reliability and parts availability. Who could complain about that?
No word on whether the Spongebob seat belt pad is included in the $12,500 asking price, but if you want to find out, go ahead and check out the ad !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I really hope the car's orignal interior was just gone. Because why would anyone replace this with any 90's or early 2000's Ford interior.

This kind of conversion is very common and these hot rodders have no fucks leftover for interior. Hell my Model A is on an S-10 frame.

Yes, but does your model A has a complete S-10 interior?

Because they don't have to unhook anything.

It barely has an interior at all. My dashboard is a board that was painted red.

Definitely a Ranger frame. Still has the spare-tire pan behind the axle, which makes it a '03-11. 98+ came with real IFS.

The Dodge needed running gear and the Ranger had it, I applaud this guy for using what he had.
